Mancala je ena najstarejših igralnih tradicij na svetu — dokazi sejanja v kotanjah segajo vsaj v Egipt 7. stoletja n. št., nekateri raziskovalci pa izvor postavljajo še veliko prej. Beseda "mancala" prihaja iz arabščine (naqala = premakniti). Obstaja na stotine regionalnih različic po vsej Afriki, Bližnjem vzhodu, Aziji in Karibih. Pravila na tej strani opisujejo Kalah — najpogostejšo zahodno različico.

Mancala is one of the oldest game traditions in the world — evidence of seed-sowing in pits has been found in Egypt dating to the 7th century CE, with some researchers placing the origin as far back as 3000–1000 BCE. "Mancala" comes from Arabic (naqala = to move). Hundreds of regional variants exist across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Caribbean. The rules on this page describe Kalah — the most common Western variant.

Postavitev: V vsako od 12 jamic daj 4 semena. Obe shrambi na koncih deske ostaneta prazni. Vsak igralec ima 6 jamic na svoji strani in shrambo na svoji desni.

Setup: Place 4 seeds in each of the 12 pits. Both stores (the large pit at each end of the board) start empty. Each player owns 6 pits on their side plus their own store.

On your turn, choose one of your 6 pits (must contain seeds). Pick up all seeds from that pit and drop one seed at a time into each following pit counter-clockwise — including your own store, but not your opponent's store.

  • Zadnje seme pade v tvojo shrambo → odigraš še eno potezo.Last seed lands in your store → take another turn.
  • Zadnje seme pade v prazno jamico na tvoji strani → ujameš to seme in vsa semena iz nasprotne jamice; vse skupaj gre v tvojo shrambo.Last seed lands in an empty pit on your side → capture that seed and all seeds in the directly opposite pit — all go to your store.

Ko kateremu koli igralcu zmanjka semen na njegovi strani, se igra takoj konča. Drugi igralec pospravi vsa preostala semena s svoje strani v svojo shrambo. Zmaga tisti, ki ima v shrambi več semen.

When any player has no seeds left on their side, the game ends immediately. The opponent takes all remaining seeds on their side and adds them to their store. Most seeds in store wins.
